Wanli UFO Village (萬里飛碟屋)

Even though this is one of Taiwan’s most blogged-about locations, I’ll nonetheless write one, too. Oh well. This is my blog and I can do what I want!

There isn’t much more that I can say that hasn’t already been said in several other places. But here’s a brief recap.

The futuristic beachside resort started in the 1980s. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a success and it was shut down after only a few years. The location was the main problem as it’s often cold and wet or hot and wet in this area of Taiwan. Since the resort’s failure, the majority of the Futuro houses have been empty for the last 30 years or more.

It’s a place I have wanted to see for a long time, so I was happy to finally have time off to check them out. On to the photos.

A few of the Venturo houses are actually used and look pretty nice.

Famous abandoned hotel next to the UFO village. It’s awesome.
Another famous urbex spot is close by. It sucks.

The houses are super easy to find. Just Google 翡翠灣海水浴場 and look for them. There are some signs asking people not to take photos or videos. But disregard it since you are on a public road So not much anyone can actually do. But be respectful to the people living in the area.

So if you are in this beautiful area of Taiwan or traveling to or from Yeliu, stop by the houses and say Hi!

  1. I recall being there one November weekend in either 2016 or 2017 for an event that sort of failed to gel. I walked around a lot. It looked so forlorn. Even across the highway and up the hillside much appeared to have been left to the forces of nature, though there were people living there. The experience affirmed my essential “southern” being. I was very glad to get back to Tainan.
